Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) and the Royal Society of London (CA) in accordance with the signed Memorandum announce a joint Russian-British initiatory research projects competition in 2012 (“KO_a”). The aim of the competition is to grant financial support for basic research works which should be carried out in 2012-2013 in the following areas of expertise:
(01) Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics;
(02) Physics and Astronomy;
(03) Chemistry and materials science;
(04) Biology and Medical Science;
(05) Geoscience;
(07) Information, Computer and Communication Technologies;
(08) Fundamentals of engineering sciences.
The competition supports all the studies of mutual interest jointly carried out by Russian and British scientists.
TERMS OF THE COMPETITION
RFBR supports projects on a competitive basis, regardless of age, academic status, degree or occupation of the applicants, as well as the affiliation of the scientific organizations they are working with. КО_а competition follows the rules of the initiatory research projects competition («а»).
Content of the applications should be previously discussed and agreed between Russian and British scientists taking part in the research competition.
The term of conducting joint initiatory research project is limited to two years.
Russian scientists should send their applications to RFBR while British scientists should apply to CA. All applications accepted for the competition will undergo an independent parallel expertise.
FINANCIAL CONDITIONS
Financial support for the projects supported by both parties will be carried out as follows: RFBR pays the costs associated with implementation of projects submitted by Russian scientists, and CA pays the costs associated with implementation of projects submitted by British scientists. The costs associated with receiving visiting scientists are paid by the receiving party. Travel costs from place of work to foreign partners will be paid by the sending side. The cost of casualty insurance is paid by the sending side. All costs associated with the implementation of projects must comply with the “List of cost types to support RFBR projects”.
The decision to continue funding a project for the next year will be based on expertise results of the interim report. One of the key conditions to continue support for international competitions projects is the timely receipt of interim reports and the presence of joint peer-reviewed publications together with the foreign partner (not including theses).
PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS TO RFBR
RFBR will accept applications submitted only via “Grant-Express” system.
Applicants are welcome to submit their applications in “Grant-Express” from 14 November 2011 to February 1, 2012 inclusive.
